"Arizona Remembers 9/11, Tempe Beach Park"

I know that I posted this image earlier in the summer, but now that 9/11 is here again, I think it's okay to post it again as a reminder for all of us. If you are in the Valley and able to stop by Tempe Beach Park, do so tomorrow. It will only be up throughout the day. There are 2996 flags - one for each person who lost their life that day and each flag carries a yellow placard with their name. It is a moving memorial and tribute that is a must see. Giclées of this painting are available for purchase.

Flagstaff Open Studios - 2012

Special thanks to all my guests who stopped by my studio this weekend! It was really fun to see so many familiar faces and meet new friends as well. I loved all your comments about my paintings and appreciated your purchases. I always like to know that my paintings have gone to good homes! I will leave most of my work up this week if you were unable to visit as I continue to paint on my demo - aspen and the peaks. Is there any better combination?
John, my husband and only "staff", especially enjoyed his role as chef during Open Studios and was so happy with the rave reviews on his Lavender Brownies! Of course the culinary lavender that he used was from the Red Rock Lavender Farm. We hung the completed lavender paintings that I had worked on during their festival in June along with the original painting, "Let's Sit Among the Lavender".

Meet the Artist at Brandy's Restaurant

It was a fun afternoon at Brandy's Restaurant during "Meet the Artist"! I had a chance to share my watercolors with so many friends and my sister, Janis, was even able to join us.  Brandy served her mini mimosas and some yummy cookies.  My show will continue until July 30th.

"AZ Remembers 9/11, Tempe Beach Park"

"Arizona Remembers 9/11, Tempe Beach Park" (image 11x16)
This painting is now being shown at Brandy's Restaurant in Flagstaff with a little narrative explaining the setting. It was up for one day only, September 11, 2011, on the 10th anniversary of the attack. There was a flag with a placard for each life lost - a symbolic reminder to all of us of the loss to America on that day. My husband, John, was in the Valley and took photos for me so that I was able to paint this watercolor. (It is available in giclée prints.)

Thanks to Brandy and her wonderful staff, my show is up and ready to see while you enjoy some yummy food! We hung 30 framed pieces, many just painted for this show, and several mini originals and ceramic tiles. There will be some changes in the art over the next few weeks, so check back here and at Brandy's to see what's new!

the Noise - Arts & News...

The June issue of the Noise is out this weekend! Publisher Charles Severeid has created a beautiful ad for my show at Brandy's! Pick up an issue and see the article by Clair Anna Rose about my plans for the show! It opens June 5th, in Flagstaff (directions on their website www.BrandysRestaurant.com) so my brushes will be working overtime this week. So will my matter and framer, husband, John!

Red Rock Lavender, Concho, AZ

Here it is, once again, my painting of the lavender fields in Concho, AZ. But wait... this is exciting news! Red Rock Lavender Farm is getting ready for their annual festival in June, when it is open to the public for tours. It's a wonderful chance to see the farm, experience some "pick your own lavender," and see the different offerings in the gift shop. Find your way using the map and get more details from their website (look for the festival link).  You will notice that they will be selling notecards and prints of this image in their gift shop. So plan your trip to Concho and don't forget to order your lunch ahead of time through their site.

Daffodils - in my new ad!

So much news. I've been busy painting and have some new watercolors that will be ready for my Spring and Summer shows in Flagstaff. Also some new venues coming up. But this is just the best news that I want to share it with you first. I now have an ad on Susan Branch's website www.SusanBranch.com with a link to my website! Many of you know that Susan has been an inspiration to me for years - her work is so charming! So I am thrilled to be able to advertise my website with her. Just click on the "Inspiration" in the right hand column of her home page and it will take you to her special page with blogs and sites that she wants to share. You will see my ad there in the top corner. Look for the daffodils...

Eye Candy?

Recently, a fellow artist was telling some folks about visiting my open studio and said she was amazed by all the "eye candy" as she entered the room! She said the paintings themselves as well as all the other items that I was showing my work on - the quilt blocks, the ceramic tiles, the holiday ornaments, the small table top easels and cards of various types. Today, I sent out my request for a Host Studio for the 2012 Hidden in the Hills Open Studio and Sale Event in November.

Sunsets and Tangerine!

Did you know that tangerine has been determined to be the color for 2012! How exciting to have such a vibrant, happy color to usher us into the new year! So, of course, I was thinking about what I could paint in "tangerine" and found a painting that I have not shared with you yet. "La Jolla Sunset" (image 10x14) was a commissioned piece that I painted last fall. I had to wait to show it here to be sure that it had been presented to its recipients and I wouldn't spoil the surprise. It's a perfect take on the tangerine theme and would look wonderfully exciting in so many landscapes if you don't have palm trees where you live!

If you don't have a spot for a sunset, how about a still life or flowers? My mind is going crazy with ideas, so I'd better get my brushes busy! Where can you add a splash of tangerine?!
